Boston Dynamics Handle robot review, features and importance
Handle robot is used for material-handling applications, and features a manipulator arm, It can pick up heavy boxes, It has a swinging tail that helps it balance and move dynamically in tight spaces, It is a mobile robot that combines the rough-terrain capability of legs with the efficiency of wheels, and it is an industrial robot that is created by Boston Dynamics in the United States in 2019.
Handle Robot
Handle robot is a research and industrial robot, It stands 6.5 ft tall, It travels at 9 mph, and jumps 4 feet vertically, It comes with electric power to operate both electric & hydraulic actuators, with a range of about 15 miles on one battery charge, Handle robot has almost the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots, but it is less complex, with only about 10 actuated joints, Handle robot wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go anywhere.
Handle robot had stump arms instead of a single vacuum arm, and the bulk of the weight was in the torso, whereas the new version of the handle robot comes with a swinging counterweight on its rear end for balance, Human workers can wield handle robot as a unique kind of tool, It’s got a mode where it can squat down and you can manually wheel it around.
Boston Dynamics doesn’t intend the handle robot to be a collaborative robot, the handle robot will work in isolation from humans, unloading pallets autonomously while humans take care of other tasks in the warehouse. Handle robot can pick up 100-pound crates, It has some clear differences from its predecessor, It appears to be larger, and more strikingly, the handle robot has a large, overhead suction-cup gripper.
Handle robot has a camera to localize itself in space, it has a camera for obstacle avoidance, and it has a camera that is looking for the best place to grab a box, Spot Mini has cameras looking in all directions, so, it can be used for more general purposes. With Handle stacking boxes and Spot Mini wandering more widely, perhaps inspecting oil and gas operations, Atlas might lie somewhere in between, Its legs allow it to stomp over difficult terrain.
Boston Dynamics’ Rolling ‘Handle’ Robots are scary cute dogs and humanoids, Handle robot can lift boxes, It is used for bipedal or quadrupedal bots to one with wheels, It looks far more polished, though, applying the original into a useful machine that can load and unload pallets of products in the warehouse, It’s easy to see the applications of handle in automating warehouse work, with fleets of robots rolling around and grabbing boxes to build into a perfect, giant stack.
Handle robot can lift up to 30-pound boxes, and it can stack pallets up to 4 feet deep and up to 5.5 feet tall, it has onboard vision systems that help find boxes to grab and track which pallets, it’s supposed to be taking them to and from, A robot is as advanced as Handle not being prohibitively expensive for most warehouses, at a time when most warehouse robots are essentially autonomous carts, Handle robot is a fast-moving robot capable of actually picking off products of shelves.
Boston Dynamics Handle robot can carry a box, It can figure out which boxes are discrete from each other and plan a path for grabbing the box, It can work in warehouses, But the robot will depend on its overall shape to do its new job, Although Handle, Atlas, and Spot Mini look almost nothing alike, they are intimately connected, Handle robot isn’t different from Atlas, Boston Dynamics Atlas can pick up boxes with two arms that ended in stubs.
Handle robot features
Handle robot is a modular industrial gearbox for infinite applications, Cloud Ground Control enables remote monitoring and control of unlimited uncrewed systems with a new micro-modem, Handle robot can drive the automotive industry forward, It can select the right camera solution for robotic arms, It has depth sensing in embedded vision using e-con Systems’ 3D time of flight camera.
Handle robot is designed for logistics, It is a mobile manipulation robot that autonomously performs mixed SKU pallet building and depalletizing after initialization and localizing against the pallets, Handle robot uses an onboard vision system to track the marked pallets for navigation and finds individual boxes for grasping and placing, Handle robot had two arms when it was introduced in 2017, it comes with one arm, but can still easily lift and move the boxes thanks to a suction gripper.
Handle robot disadvantages
Workers won’t have Handle robot as a colleague anytime soon due to cost and efficiency.
